Run with the boy

After seeing the family and having another #cousinhangout on Sunday, the 2025 running goal has been set: 5km in 25 minutes. That’s like. so fast, especially for me who is most comfortable at a 6:30/km pace (1 min 30seconds over race pace). Anway I have little hope of actually reaching this goal but think I could definitely shave some time off my 5km time which I’ve been wanting to do for a while (remember when I said I was gonna get fast? and then I didn’t?) so I have of course joined the Cousin Strava Group and am beginning my training (not. I am in injury rehabilitation I’ve accepted my fate). Teddy was very excited about this goal, which is strange because he famously does not like running, but he really wants to be on the cousin whatsapp group and Danny said he can if he can do the 25 minute 5k. Anyway Teddy went on 1 run (his first solo run ever I think) and reported back that he ran 2km at a 5:30/km pace which my dad did not believe because Teddy always goes on about being the slowest in his year and how he hates running at school. I also lowkey didn’t believe it because when Teddy and I last went on a run together he HATED it and walked a lot of it. However bro is a little athlete now so he has accidentally got really quick, which I found out after going on a run with him.

We started running and I was like yeah let’s go at a 5:30km pace and see if he actually does run this fast. Reader, not only does he run this fast, he runs it like it’s nothing!! By the second km I had stopped and was wheezing (thought I had asthma but I think this cough is just never leaving) and he was WAITING for me a little speck in the distance. How the tables have turned. He said ‘I’m going to do a loop round. You can have a head start’ and I LAUGHED because WHAT IS MY LIFE but it was really funny when he caught up with me and scared me. I managed another km before I gave up and walked home (I told him to just run home) because turns out running a longer distance at a pace that is insane is not great for stamina.

Anyway Ted is definitely going to boss this challenge and I’m excited to make him run long distances with me! He told my dad he still hates running though… and then said he was going on a run.

Stay tuned for Monday, where I attend my FIRST GYM SPIN CLASS then get a cervical exam!
